Millbrook-based textiles designer Helen Round has launched a new collection of hand-printed linen home ware inspired by traditional Cornish sailing boats.
The collection, which includes lampshades, cushions, tea towels, wash bags, aprons, napkins and placemats, depicts traditional Cornish ‘luggers’ – a traditional Cornish sailing ship with two or three masts and a lugsail on each.
The designer lives in a village where boat builders restore luggers, so the boats can often be seen moored near her coastal studio. “This lugger is moored offshore seeking refuge in a quiet Cornish cove,” Helen told coadg.
Having grown up on St Michael’s Mount, an island off West Cornwall accessible by foot at low tide, but only via boat on high tide, the designer says that regular trips by boat across Mounts Bay, to and from the mainland, are some of her fondest memories. “This new collection is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the maritime heritage of the wonderful Cornish county I live in and love,” she says.
Helen was recently shortlisted for the My Country Business Awards by Country Homes & Interiors Magazine and will be exhibiting her work at Home at TopDrawer in January 2016.
