The Centiped was originally designed as a bespoke piece for a penthouse apartment on the 30th level of a condominium in Kiev to showcase the homeowner’s accessories.
“We couldn’t find anything appropriate to display accessories because we didn’t have much space for a freestanding piece in the interior,” says Olha Akulova.
It is now in production as a limited edition of 100 in two colourways. The architect collaborated with furniture manufacturer Paspolini and local craftsmen to make the pieces. “One of [the craftmen] is a hereditary cabinetmaker,” says Olha. “He used his family secrets to create this island, combining his knowledge with democratic lightweight materials such as a plywood.”
The Centiped launched at the London Design Fair (formerly Tent London) during the London Design Festival in September. Other exhibitors included Bend Goods, Amy Isles Freeman and Fern Robinson.
